"Paula led our walking tour with wine and food pairing. We have done many wine tours and visited wineries in other countries. But Paula's approach to tasting and understanding wine and food pairing was so different from how we've always done it. It felt more like a science experiment than a tasting. Prior to starting the tasting, Paula did a small walking tour with us giving us highlights of Lisbon and its history. Then, for the wine and food pairing, she selected 2 cold dishes and 2 hot dishes to compare and contrast how the texture and flavors change with each wine and food combination. When Paula said that this approach is how she leads her wine tasting courses for sommeliers, it made us feel like we were getting a glimpse of how the pros do it. Paula also took extra time to help us find the best way to get to our next destination after her tasting and tour were over. She was so helpful and so interesting. We are still so excited to have learned from Paula that we have been telling people we met in other tours in Lisbon about her. "

"Isabel kindly hosted a large family group (10 people, ages 15-80), and we had a wonderful time. The table was beautifully set for us, and we enjoyed a large array of salads and starters to begin the meal along with a delicious white wine. The next course was a baked fish (hake in cream sauce topped with mashed potatoes), followed by a delicious pork dish from Isabel's home region in southern Portugal, and enjoyed with a delightful red wine. Although we were stuffed, we managed to enjoy the sweets to end the meal, pasteis de nata. Isabel was a warm and witty hostess."

"Dinner with Isabel and Chico is like visiting an old friend who is a great cook. Isabel made us comfortable the minute we walked in the door. We were relaxed and comfortable as if we had known her for years. There were six in our party and we are all good eaters. We could not begin to eat all the food Isabel served in spite of the fact she is a great cook. Not to mention the never ending bottles of wine. Chico, her dog is as friendly as she is and loves to play and be pet. His is very well behaved but if you encourage him he is more than willing to be your friend. I could go on and on about all the wonderful food and great conversation we shared that night but I won’t. Just book an evening with Isabel . I promise you it will be an evening and meal you will remember fondly. Then you two will have a new friend in Lisbon!"

"This is a great experience. Yeah, you can go to Portuguese restaurants and eat Portuguese food … but you can do that ANY day. The idea of eating with a local is so very personal and not commercial. So, first, the concept is great. Secondly, our host, Isabel, was very welcoming and pleasant and we were able to hear about her life and that of a resident. She is a very, very lovely person, a good conversationalist and a great cook. We had three bottles of wine between three of us (and there was plenty more if needed) and many starters (different cheeses, tomatoes, bread, etc.) - I probably would have been fine to stop there. Then Isabel brought out our first course of … of … not sure how to describe it. It was kind of like mashed potatoes with Cod and a coating of baked cheese atop - it’s Shepard’s Pie but with cod (is the closest I can think) but, regardless, it was gooooood. Our final dish was black pig … soooo good. Of course, we had to switch from white to red wine for this dish. Then entire night went too fast. Would strongly recommend anyone do this. Well worth it."

The personalized tour felt less like sightseeing and more like being welcomed into the heart of Portuguese wine culture. We especially enjoyed visiting the small, family-run Casa Agricola Lobo winery for a light lunch and more wine."
