Reviews from guests about our tours and locals
"We enjoyed our time with Ana. She was knowledgeable and full of information. Ahead of time she was great at communicating and making sure we knew what was needed about Lisbon and travel during our trip. Ana is a guide that takes pride in her job and absolutely loves her town and the fact she and her mom grew up in Lisbon. Any questions we had she knew the answer and more. She really was a joy. "
"Very engaging, passionate, young guide. Pedro made our time in Lisbon a real adventure!"
"As an English teacher, I take writing seriously and understand the power of words. So believe me when I say that João is the best tour guide I've ever met. He is personable, accommodating, and EXTREMELY well versed about the history and highlights of Lisbon. My friend and I were both very impressed and truly liked him as a person. If you choose Joāo to show you around the city, you will not be disappointed!"
"We had a great day with Tiago! He was very laid back and dealt with us wanting to shop and explore along the way. He took us to lunch too and the food was excellent! "
"My family enjoyed a wonderful day with Sonia strolling through Lisbon! Sonia met us at a miradouro (which she taught us means “viewpoint” in Portuguese) that overlooked the entirety of downtown. It was the first of many delightful lessons throughout our tour. After a quick family photo, we began strolling downhill through the entertainment district, arts district, and shopping district. Sonia had our tour perfectly planned, and along the way she took special care to entertain my 11-year-old daughter. We visited the gorgeous Church of Saint Roch, where we were amazed by the intricate artwork and shocking relic collection in one of the oldest churches in Lisbon. Each chapel within the church displayed unique art, with rich histories. My daughter enjoyed searching for the statue of Saint Roch’s loyal bread-delivering dog amongst the gilded scenes. Sonia then shared the story of the Carnation Revolution while we passed by a building facade that honored the peaceful end to a 50-year dictatorship. We continued down the hill to a bakery serving Lisbon’s famous pastel de nata. Sonia ordered the treat for each of us, a delicious sweet custard topped with cinnamon in a flaky pastry shell. So good! This was my daughter’s favorite stop! Sonia then walked us through the arts district, where we saw the inside of a 100-year old coffee shop that introduced the drink to Lisbon and served the local creatives. We also heard the interesting story of the owner’s connection to Brazil and a coffee plantation. Next, we strolled down the hill through the shopping high street. My daughter enjoyed a fresh-squeezed juice as we walked. Sonia shared the history of Lisbon before and after the 1755 earthquake. The royal family was certainly full of drama. In the main square, Sonia treated us to ginjinha, a famous cherry liqueur in Lisbon. The best part: it was served in an edible dark chocolate cup. My daughter got one full of fruit juice, which brought endless smiles. Next up was a true hidden gem: a wealthy home, turned underground casino, turned restaurant and event center. The tiling inside was divine. It had a beautiful courtyard and fascinating architecture and design. We took many family photos inside. We finished our tour by strolling down the main street towards the river. Sonia pointed out the Santa Justa Lift, an old iron elevator that made for another great photo op. After experiencing the hills of Lisbon, I know why this was built! Sadly, the elevator was under maintenance, so we will have to come back to ride it. Our tour ended at the Rua Augusta Arch. My family really enjoyed going up to the top to see the city from the other side and to take even more gorgeous pictures. We also had some fun watching the mechanical clock gears turn. Overall, Sonia made our day in Lisbon unforgettable for all the right reasons. She has our highest recommendation!"
"Catarina made an uncomfortably hot day much more enjoyable with her energetic approach to sharing information about hidden gems throughout Lisbon. As a Lisboeta, she is familiar with the best shaded routes through the city and the most convenient ways of avoiding walking up the many hills. She shared her impressive wealth of knowledge about the city’s history and culture. We learned a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed her tour. We highly recommend her!"
"We are a family with 2 teens and VERY diverse (read-picky) food preferences. Andre catered this food tour perfectly for us and it was something we all truly enjoyed. He shared some of the history without going over the top, you could tell he was truly passionate about his country and his culture. He was a wealth of knowledge and able to answer any of our questions. He made what looked like an easy effort to connect with our girls with an overall great sense of humor and easy going attitude. He took us to some hidden gem spots with great views, and excellent food with locals he has a clear positive rapport with. He was even willing to share information, tips, and recommendations following our time with him. If we ever make it back to Portugal, he will be the first thing we book!"
"Joao is a fantastic tour guide who loves what he does! He was attentive, smart and so informative. We learned about the history of the Jews and everyone else in Portugal. He showed us the Alfama and Baixa neighborhoods, and his love for Portugal rubbed off. And, as seniors, we appreciated his sensitivity to all our needs, and his great sense of humor was infective"
"We had a wonderful walking tour of Lisbon with David. He was knowledgeable, friendly and a good listener. Highly recommend!"
"We are grateful for this experience, and glad that we had a chance to spend a few hours with Antonio, strolling the streets of Lisbon, slowing down, digging deep, learning a bit about each others culture. He is pretty knowledgeable, could satisfy our thirst for history, both recent and ancient, but above all: he was sincere, honest and made this otherwise complex situation incredibly natural. Thank you!"
