"From the moment we met Alessandro, we knew we had struck gold. During our visit to Thessaloniki, we were hoping to find a local guide who could show us the real, non-commercial gems of the city—and we couldn’t have been luckier to find Alessandro through Withlocals.
A proud native Thessalonian, Alessandro radiates charisma, warmth, and a contagious enthusiasm for his city. As we wandered through the streets, learning about Thessaloniki’s layered history and vibrant culture, he brought everything to life with stories, humor, and heart. And then came the food… oh, the food! Alessandro whisked us to his favorite local spots: flaky phyllo pastries straight from the oven, authentic Turkish coffee, the famous Freddo Espresso, and of course—perfectly delicious gyros. Every bite was a joy, and every stop felt like a secret shared between friends.
One of the most meaningful moments of our day (which was not part of the tour agenda) was his thoughtful effort to bring us to the Monastirioton Synagogue—the only pre–WWII synagogue still standing in Thessaloniki. His respect for the city’s history and its people was evident in everything he shared.
Beyond being an incredible guide, Alessandro is simply an incredible person—bright, thoughtful, fun, passionate, and utterly charming. By the end of our tour, we felt as though we had spent the afternoon with a dear friend. We even made plans to meet again, whether in Italy (where he also is also a guide) or on our next trip back to Greece.
If you’re visiting Thessaloniki, do yourself the biggest favor: book a tour with Alessandro. You will learn, you will laugh, you will eat very well—and you absolutely will not be disappointed. He made our trip unforgettable!!!"

Thessaloniki Food Tour
"My wife and I had a great walking food tour with host Alex, who was very friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with. Before the tour I had several conversations with Alex both by WhatsApp and by phone to ensure everything ran smoothly. During the tour Alex was incredibly knowledgeable, in addition to sampling local delicacies in traditional food spots, Alex also gave us the history of the city as well as pointing out landmarks, good restaurants and places worth visiting. It was a very enjoyable experience and one I would thoroughly recommend."

Good food, learned a lot, had fun!
"Group of 6, one of us Celiac (AKA \"gluten free\") hitting local food establishments - coffee/ pastry, olive, cured meats, natural foods like honey, herbs, and spices. Hara did a good job, very knowledgeable about the local scene, even personally attempting a gluten free bread for us. I would definitely do this tour again!"

"We had a truly wonderful experience with Nikos. He was warm, welcoming, and made us feel at ease right away. The tour combined delicious tastings of authentic Greek food with fascinating historical insights about Thessaloniki. Nikos was attentive, friendly, and open-minded - we especially appreciated how inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly he was. Overall, it was both a tasty and meaningful way to discover the city, and we highly recommend it.

Wonderful Experience
"We had such a wonderful tour with Hara. Hara gave us a wide and varied experience, allowing us to savor all of our senses as she hand chose wonderful stops for delicious food and treats. I loved feeling the rhythm of the city, and learning about history and culture of Thessanoliki. Hara creates a fun and relaxing atmosphere, and she even gave us recommendations for restaurants for later in the day. An absolutely must-do tour. Highly recommended."
