The story of gold mine town - POW camp tour

To Experience the cleanest subway/ tube in the world, trying the transportation of the Taipei MRT system is one of the top 10 things you must to do.

First we meet at Taipei city hall MRT station exit 2 ,after a quick tour at the bus station culture then we right head to the train station by MRT.

At Nangang station, we will have TRA ( Taiwan Railway Administration), HSR (High-Speed Railroad) and Taipei MRT ( Mass Rapid Transit) all in one station.

TRA will take us to the old town that used to be the main gate for traders from the north port (Keelung) and the south rice field (Yilan) for their daily trades.

The train will take us there in minutes(certain train only) You will see the busy streets of the gold mine old town, how the local market looks like and people ride their scooters to do the food shopping. The street will lead us to the bus station where also has the temple that people go every day for exchanging information and praying for happiness. After hopping into the bus, we may appreciate the beautiful mountain views through the windows of the bus on the winding road. The higher the bus goes up, the smaller the houses in gold mine town become. How could we miss the gold mine pit to imagine what a minor's life looked like in the past? The old-time mine railway will lead us to find the entrance of mine pit. We will enter the pit and we may see the track and the route where the minors and the POW used to work. After 200 meters long route we will arrive at the exit of the pit, the mountain and ocean view will be just right in front of you. We may have a short break, enjoy the view with a bowl of sweet soup, hand-made dessert by the water from the mountain. The Crown Prince Chalet is not far away. It was built for Japanese royalty during the time Taiwan was ruled by Japan. Traditional Japanese house and garden will bring you back to the Japan colonial period. After the Crown Prince Chalet, we will hit the winding road again by walking, we will see the site of POW (Prisoner of War) camp-Kinkaseki after 10 minutes walk.

There is an Honor Roll which consists of the names of all the men who died while POWs residents in camps of Taiwan during World War. It lists them alphabetically by name with their rank at that time and the regiment/unit which they served. The memorial stone and its history will bring us back to world war II.

We will be heading back to Gold town old street, ​tasting the local food.
