Let me take you on an amazing day trip where you will spend a day surrounded by beautiful natural sights. With numerous rare bird species, a shady forest, rich green rice fields, and a big sweet-water lake, it's a perfect break in nature!
From the Turia gardens, one of the largest urban parks in Spain and the perfect start for this itinerary, go to the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences and cross the new Turia riverbed just before getting to the Albufera surroundings.
Ride along the paths while passing peaceful beaches, dunes and a lovely Mediterranean forest while you get surprised with the views of a former civil war bunker built to defend the maritime front from the attacks of the Italian and German navy.
I'll tell you all about the struggling days, when the urban development took over and la Devesa started to be promoted as a tourist resort, and how the locals played an essential role to stop the building works and protect this one-of-a-kind ecosystem.
You'll also learn about the rices varieties harvested here and how we use them to make the perfect paella. The fields are a beautiful rich green in the summer (from June to September), and submerged in water in the winter months. They are also home to many bird species which nest here in the warm Valencian climate. We might be lucky to spot some!
And we save the best for the last: the Albufera lake. Discover how it was formed over millions of years ago and admire the typical houses on its shores while sailing and enjoying a well-deserved rest.
