"Majo gave us (4 newly-retired profs from the USA) a personal tour of the Riena Sofia Museum in January 2026. She greeted us at the appointed location in a warm and friendly manner. After getting to know one another a bit, we started the tour in a rather unassuming room where some of the images looked like they were prints, not originals. It seemed a bit bewildering at first but, as the tour progressed, it became clear that she was very deliberate in her selections and their description. In fact, the theme of her tour became very clear and compelling: that the socio-politics of Spain drove the art that we were seeing. Her narrative was so convincing that when we ultimately entered the room with Picasso's Guernica, it was not only an aesthetic experience, but an emotional one as well.
