"We (a group of five adults) had a wonderful time exploring Lisbon with Jorge. He is extremely engaging, bright, and fun to be around. His tour of the hidden gems of Lisbon was amazing. Jorge has clearly put an incredible amount of thought and effort into design the tour and its route. The tour included some truly hidden gems that we wouldn’t have found on our own (e.g., an exploration of the different styles of traditional street tiling around the city). Our group was particularly interested in Lisbon’s history. Jorge is extremely knowledgeable in this topic. We especially enjoyed that Jorge focused on the connection between the history and culture of Lisbon throughout the centuries. For example, we discussed the modern cultural impacts of ancient occupation of the land around Lisbon by the Romans, the Moors, and the Visigoths; we discussed the effect of the 1775 earthquake and its impact on modern architecture in the city; we also discussed modern history such as the rise and fall of the Salazar’s dictatorship and Lisbon’s cultural contributions to poetry. This is a wide variety of topics that connect history, architecture, culture, and more. Jorge did an excellent job of explaining these connections and naturally tying them into the landmarks we were visiting. This made the tour both engaging and wonderfully immersive. We were particularly impressed by how well planned and carefully conceived the tour was. Jorge weaved each visited location into a larger story about Lisbon. The order of the stops made sense and contributed greatly to the story. It’s clear that he has put a lot of thought into this. Finally, more important than the tour being informative, Jorge was fun to be around. He’s a funny guy and we greatly enjoyed the time we spent with him. We highly recommend getting a tour with him.
