Raquel guided both of our tours — the food tour and our time exploring Jalatlaco — and it was clear she is truly connected within the local community. "You've likely taken tours with guides where it seems like they are reading from a script....my experience with Tanivet WAS NOT THAT! I genuinely felt like I was getting the story of a people, of a community, of a city from someone who knows all of the aforementioned intimately and sincerely wanted to share her knowledge and passion with me. My time with Tanivet was beyond any expectations I could have had. The moment I set foot in Oaxaca I felt different. There is something about this city that really speaks to me and Tanivet helped deepen my experience and understanding of what I've been feeling while being in this magnificent, truly one of a kind city. Furthermore, Tanivet conducted the entire tour in Spanish (per my request) and guess what, she's been a teacher of Spanish for over 30 years! And while her English is fantastic, getting the tour in Spanish from a seasoned interpreter of language and culture...I mean it truly doesn't get any better than that.
