"I’m not sure that I expected much more than someone to drive us up to the Civita di Bagnareggio, show us someplace to have lunch in Orvieto, and then drive us back to Rome. But instead we got a very caring, experienced guide—Mauro! It took an hour and a half to drive to the Civita during which we had a wonderful conversation about families, politics, and some of the more subtle differences between the US and Italy. I had been to the Civita 25 years ago with my daughter when there was a parking lot at the beginning of the quarter mile, very steep bridge which leads up to the little Civita. This time the parking lot was farther away up a steep hill which would have to be navigated on our descent, and I wasn’t sure I could do both the bridge uphill and the return path uphill. It wasn’t easy, but grazie to Mauro, he found me a ride back up the hill. And he knew so much about the history of the Civita. So it was more than a walk through at an interesting little town. In Orvieto he knew how to navigate the escalators in the tunnels to reduce our uphill climb, which by then was definitely appreciated. And he recommended 2 restaurants. We chose one and were happy with our choice. Because Mauro has lived in the US, his English is impeccable, and I CANT RECOMMEND HIM HIGHLY RNOUGH!"
