We finished our three hour tour - which really was four hours - with such a better knowledge of Split and all the layers of its history. Best yet, she mixed the tour with her personal opinions, stories about her life, her parents, her grandparents, which made the city much more personal and more alive. We even ducked into a couple of her favourites for snacks and a coffee. We left the tour feeling like we had a new friend. Duba is very good at what she does. Her pacing is perfect. "Dubravka’s warmth and considerable historical knowledge of Split, the Dalmatian area and Croatia kept the four of us completely engaged for almost four hours. We learnt so much about the history of Split, the buildings and their origins, the people and, probably the most touchingly, how Dubravka’s family and their traditions were woven into the city. She was warm and completely authentic, full of knowledge and side stories of the people who lived in Split over the last 2,000 years. As we walked through the narrow streets with her, she would pop into a cafe here or a shop there, treating us to some very special chocolate, a Pipi soda (and the amusing back-story), and other Split specialties, and we were rather sad for the afternoon to end. She had already run over by about an hour, and I am sure she was ready to call it a day, but she gave us no sign of that. The afternoon ended as it had begun, with a warm hug for each of us, and we felt like we had made a new friend. It really was a wonderful thing to do and we cannot recommend Dubravka highly enough. "After 9 nights in Croatia, we ended our trip in Split and at the last minute decided we needed to get to know the city through the eyes of a local. Thankfully Josko was available and off we went one late morning. With the concentration on Diocletian's Palace, we became immersed in the fascinating history of Split!
