Here’s an overview of your tour

From Munich we drive towards Salzburg and arrive in Prien am Chiemsee. We board a ferry and cross the lake to Herrenchiemsee island.

From the harbour at this island it is about 20-minute walk through a majestic old forest to the royal castle, built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria. He was inspired by the Palace of Versailles in France. The Hall of Mirrors can truly compete with Versailles!

After the tour of the castle, we continue by boat to the idyllic Frauenchiemsee island. Here we can enjoy a walk around this enchanting island. We visit the old Benedictine Frauenwörth abbey and the church, which is a gorgeous example of medieval/baroque architecture and furnishings.

We can enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the restaurants with a beautiful view over the water and to the Alps. Another option is to have a picnic on the lakeshore and dip your feet in the clear water of Bavaria’s largest lake.

In the late afternoon we cross Lake Chiemsee one last time to get back to Prien, from where we drive back to your hotel.

This day is a round trip with plenty of memorable moments and experiences.

What you should know before your trip to Chiemsee:

From the Herrenchiemsee harbour you have the option of taking a horse-drawn carriage to the castle.

The Castle Herrenchiemsee and most of the island are accessible to wheelchair users.
