The medieval town of Guimarães can be found outside of Porto, and if you are curious to see and find out more about the origin of Portugal then this day trip experience is for you!
Follow me to the birthplace of Portugal! Wander through the narrow streets of Guimarães old quarter, as you spot on top of a hill the castle where Afonso Henriques "The Founder" was born. Pass through Guimarães' most famous largos (small squares) and I'll help you pick a place to try some petiscos (tapas) later, and because you are in Minho, some vinho verde.
At the Guimarães Castle, you'll be swept by the view and you will be able to admire from a distance, the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza. No worries, we'll make a stop there too! This beautiful palace is an architectural gem from the 15th century and inside you will see ornaments and stunning tapestries representing historic events.
What the medieval town of Guimarães offers to its visitors is a historical atmosphere surrounded by beauty. This charming place is even listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Want to see it? Just follow my lead!
