Here’s an overview of your tour

We'll meet at the indicated time at the entrance of the Giardino Pacini to begin this tour of the alternative side of Catania. This Sicilian city has much more to offer than just beautiful Baroque architecture - let's explore it together!

During this tour, we'll not cross the main street (Via Etnea) neither the main square (Piazza Duomo), because both are the most busy and touristy areas of the city center. During this tour we will cross the center, but walking through small streets, alleys, and showing you places which are off the beaten path.

My aim is that you, during this tour with me, feel like locals.

We'll walk through the historic center to get to know the most interesting aspects of the Sicilian culture.

We'll discover the history of the city, from its origins to modern times, passing through eras like Roman times and the Middle Ages as we make our way through the famous arches of the Marina, Castello Ursino (with the stunning 1669 lava flow)

I'll tell you about the past of this beautiful city, and discuss local programs like the San Berillo street art project. I'll tell you about it on the tour!

Of course, this tour of Catania wouldn't be complete without delving into its gastronomy and nightlife. As you'll surely work up an appetite after hearing about pasta, arancini and cannoli, I'll recommend a typical place to try these local delicacies.

We'll have also a break in one of the typical kiosks of the city center, where we can stop and have a mandarino or a seltz, to fresh ourselves.

Then, after a 3 hour tour, we'll say goodbye in Piazza Teatro, where we’ll enjoy the beauty of the Bellini Theater in front of us.

    During the walk I will show the streets of night life and I'll give you some suggestions of the typical food you can have here in Catania

  • Hidden Gem n.1

    If you take the tour in the morning, I will show a hidden jem located in a bar. It is a volcanic cave, in the city center of Catania!

  • Hidden Gem n. 2

    If you take the tour in the afternoon, I will show you a beautiful well, with a water spring, which had been covered by the lava of 1669

  • Ursino Castle

    We'll see the most important fortress of Catania and I'll tell you how it had been surrounded by the lava from mt. Etna

  • Roman theather

    A huge roman theather which is still in use, built for the most with lava stone

  • Roman Amphitheatre

    The so called "black colosseum". An amazing testimony of roman period in the city center of catania

  • San Berillo street art project

    A very interesting street art project located in the city center. I will take you to San Berillo district, and I will tell you its story
