We met fishermen and fish mongers as well as ooing and ahhing over the variety of fish; sampled the best arancini at the Antica (1910) Rosticceria Catanese; learned the interesting history of sarde a beccafico while snacking on it at Scirocco; ate carne di cavallo and washed it down with selz, limone e sale. Agata helped us better understand and see first hand how young Catanese chefs are bringing new energy and enthusiasm for their city's amazing street food. She was flexible in scheduling an early start ( critical with the heat ! ) Maria was able to provide relevant context to Catania’s historical highlights as we walked the streets and were able to see first hand, buildings, ruins, churches and castles.
