"Trang is patient, kind and SO knowledgeable. She's warm, open and honest. We really appreciated spending the afternoon with her outside of the tourist chaos. It's very important for us when we travel to connect with people who feel like old friends ☺️. Trang showed us a local market, explained housing history and community structures as well everyday things like schools, jobs, parks and the inner workings of a pagoda, rituals and beliefs. We stopped for food and she explained the different dishes (typical things you don't find in Vietnamese restaurants or stores in "the west"). She even did an extensive offering ceremony with us and waited with us til our cab arrived. Having this kind of context will change the way you see Hanoi, and Vietnam. "We were very impressed with our guide Trang who met us at our hotel and travelled with us out into the suburbs of Hanoi, where we wandered the wonderful food and produce markets and then visited apartments where everyday Vietnamese people live. This was very illuminating and something not many visitors to Vietnam experience. Trang gave us so much valuable information about local life in a relaxed manner. We enjoyed tea at a very special tea shop in a peaceful street and by chance were invited to meet a master calligrapher and try our hand at this ancient classic art.
