Reviews from guests about our tours and locals
"Our Medieval History of Porto tour with André was fantastic. His background as a history graduate and local really made the experience stand out. He brought so much nuance to Porto’s history and shared fascinating military, historical, and cultural details that we otherwise would have missed. Since history can be an especially difficult topic to translate, I appreciated that André's English was conversational and accessible enough that my 11 year old son could follow along and enjoy the stories rather than feeling like he was tagging along. We appreciated the thoughtful pacing and choice of locations. With our jet lag, it was wonderful to visit quieter historic sights and hidden-gem viewpoints rather than spending the entire tour navigating crowded attractions. André was also happy to make a few stops related to Porto’s Jewish history on short notice, which we greatly appreciated. And the perfect ending was stopping for pastries and coffee at a local pastel de nata bakery. Overall it was a robust and fascinating tour that made the time fly by for all of us. Well done!"
"My 11-year-old son and I are complete futebol novices, so we couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Rui. He was incredibly patient and kind, and he shared wonderful stories about what it’s like to be an FC Porto fan, which made the experience feel personal and authentic. The original plan was for Rui to share some stories about the team and its history with us before we attended an FC Porto match. Before the game, we had a fantastic time learning about the club’s history, enjoying a delicious meal at a café filled with fans, and getting Rui’s great recommendations for FC Porto merchandise. Unfortunately, our match tickets didn’t work out. As we later learned, it’s best to purchase FC Porto tickets directly through the club’s website. FC Porto strong advises avoiding second party websites to avoid purchasing fake or inacurate tickets. When our plans fell apart and we realized we wouldn't be admitted to attend the game, Rui didn’t just say goodbye . He stayed with us, made sure we were okay, helped ensure that we got home safely and kept in touch with us as we sought and achieved resolution. Rui went far beyond what we expected from a tour guide. His kindness, patience, local knowledge, and genuine love for FC Porto turned what could have been a disappointing evening into a really memorable experience. We highly recommend Rui, especially for families or anyone who is new to futebol and wants to experience the passion of FC Porto through a local’s eyes!"
"We thoroughly enjoyed our morning with João. My wife and I love doing these types of tours to hunt for pieces and learn about the medium and the artists. While João isn’t an artist himself, he is clearly embedded in the community as a historian and curator. Beyond the art and artists, we gained real insight into the local scene and the history of street art in Porto. If you’re a fan of street art and want a fantastic way to experience Porto, definitely book João’s tour!"
"André was a local historian ( and archeology grad. ) with huge knowledge of his beloved city. He showed us places we would never have found and pointed out historical details we would never have noticed. Thank you André. We will warmly recommend you. "
"Really nice-paced tour highlighting current culture and integration of street art into Porto’s daily life."
"Andre very knowledge about Porto and its and Portugal’s in general history and architecture . He took me to streets and alleys I would never had found by myself. Made me appreciate this wonderful city even more. He also contacted me in morning suggesting we meet 2 hours later, due to rain, which was a good idea."
"Joao is passionate about street art in his local city and it shows. He takes you on an illuminating and often personal journey through the streets of Porto most emblematic but often hidden gems of the street art scene. With original historical, sociological, and artistic perspectives he weaves a commentary and guided tour to deepen your understanding of the works of so many incredible artists. Totally recommend!"
"Joao was an excellent and very knowledgeable guide. He pointed out a versatile mix of streetart gems we wouldn’t have discovered on our own and gave us the background story of both artists and how they came to be there. Now I look at Porto and it’s streets differently"
"Our tour with Ana was very informative and most pleasurable. We learned much about the area near the University, the park and Porto in general. After a walk through the park we saw the sunset over the Duoro. Next we went to a lovely intimate venue and heard some amazing Fado music. The Before the music we heard much about the history of this great art form. There were four different performers. They played a few instrumental songs--the Fado guitarist was amazing. Then we got to hear sets of songs by both a male and a female singer. The intimate nature of the space provided great sound and a very pleasurable listening experience. After our intimate Fado concert Ana took us on a tour of the area and we stopped for some patiscos! Ana's knowledge of Porto is great and her passion for Fado is visible! We learned a lot and best of all we had fun with a new friend! This tour was a wonderful value and we highly recommend a tour with Ana!"
"Joao was an excellent tour guide for our Graffiti tour in Porto! He had a fine knowledge of the wall art scene around the area and an intimate detail of how/ why wall art has grown in/ around that area. He was extremely friendly and easy to talk ask questions to regarding the area and art pieces. We appreciated his knowledge and sense of direction around an area we weren't the most familiar with and artists background he provided during our walk. Thanks again, Joao!"
