Reviews from guests about our tours and locals
"Mateus was a great guide. He is a student at the University so was able to share his knowledge of the student life and traditions. He was very considerate and we enjoyed our time with him very much. "
"We had a really informative and enjoyable 3 hour historical tour of Coimbra in the company of Joao. It rained for most of the time but the interest he engendered very much countered any concerns of getting wet. We explored old Coimbra via its many narrow steep streets and discovered all sorts of things we wouldn’t have been aware of but for him. He also pointed out some great restaurants and local shops some which we revisited the following day. We would definitely recommend booking a tour with Joao to ensure you make the most of your visit to Coimbra. "
"We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Coimbra with Mateus! He was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun to spend the morning with. We highly recommend him."
"We had a great time with Mateus, although still a student his historical knowledge and enthusiasm were great. Just as labelled, a great way to understand the City. Mateus’ English was great and his storytelling was excellent. Brilliant tour. "
"My wife and I only had a short time in Coimbra. We decided to take the “Hidden Gems” tour with João. It was a great experience, time well spent. He not only delved into older history of the regions (e.g., some of the first kings) but also about more recent history (e.g., the construction of the new schools/faculties at the University). We got a good feel for the downtown area by visiting a few churches, walking up to the University and back down via the botanical gardens. João also made suggestions as to where to eat some local foods and try some local beers. He helped us make the most of our limited time in Coimbra. "
"Daniel made us feel comfortable right away. He took us on a 3 hour walking route through Coimbra that revealed more than just the tourist sites. We saw the old market, residential areas, the Roman aqueduct and University Botanical Gardens entrance. Throughout the tour he gave us interesting insights and information."
"Made a last minute booking for a walking tour of Coimbra with Mateus. SO HAPPY I DID! This was the perfect way to get oriented to the city, with a warm, knowledgeable, and thoroughly engaged guide. Mateus is a wealth of knowledge about the history of the city and the university. His commentary added so much more depth to our walk than we could have possibly learned on our own. This is the perfect choice for your first day in Coimbra, and is money so well spent. Mateus treated us like valued friends for whom he was responsible for welcoming to his city. His enthusiasm for guiding and his love for Coimbra was a delight. Thank you, Mateus, for a memorable experience. A highlight of our entire trip to Portugal. "
"Mateus is a fantastic guide. He is enthusiastic- both about Coimbra and the way he relates his knowledge of Coimbra. Mateus also asked us questions about our interests and made sure that he passed on tips about those interests like the best Fado bars. We had a lovely tour with Mateus and we couldn’t be more pleased with our tour."
"Thank you, for a fabulous morning. Mateus was engaging and informative. He made the morning interesting and he was very knowledgeable. He had a lovely nature and genuine enthusiasm for life . Highly recommended "
"Before the tour, Mateus kept in touch and on the morning of the tour itself! He arrived on time for the visit and in his company, you immediately felt at ease. He is very knowledgeable about Coimbra and its University. Since he is currently studying there, you get to know about student life today as much as you do about the traditions of the past. His English is impeccable and he paces the tour, so that you do not feel rushed. One of the most interesting parts for me, was learning about the history of the Royal House in Portugal. Truly, a discovery. "
