"Our night tour began at the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque, the towering 12th-century landmark that dominates the Marrakech skyline. From there, we plunged into the electric atmosphere of the night markets around Jemaa el-Fna square, where local performers — musicians, storytellers, and acrobats — put on an incredible show for the crowds. We then wound our way through the ancient souks, where our guide gave us a rich and detailed explanation of the different craft quarters — leatherwork, spices, lanterns, and textiles — and how the trading system works. One of the most sobering and memorable stops was the site of the old slave trade market, a powerful reminder of a dark chapter in Marrakech’s history that our guide handled with honesty and sensitivity.
