Reviews from guests about our tours and locals
"Eijii was a fantastic and gracious host. We did the tour with my family of four - my wife, my 9 year old, and my 1 year old. Eijii was friendly and personable and half way through the tour, he was taking turns holding the baby, who really took a liking to him. My wife asked for us to book a food tour and it was the one thing she wanted to do in Kyoto. She was not disappointed and even my daughter, who is not normally an adventurous eater, said that it was her favorite thing we did in Kyoto. My daughter was a super good sport and promised to try everything that Eijii recommended and to be polite even if she didn’t like it. She was a champ and made good on her word. We ended up discovering that she now likes sashimi! The market is huge and there is so much to choose from, so it was nice to have a local to make recommendations and a bonus to learn about the rich history of Kyoto and the market place. I would recommend doing this tour early on in your trip so that you can get your bearings in the market and figure out what you wanna go back and try. There’s too much to see in one visit, so it was even worth it just to get a preview of the market - what kind of food they got and what kind of shopping is available. We actually finished the tour with an hour to spare. Eijii was willing to go back into the market and hit some other spots, but by the end of it we were all full and tired from a full day of walking (we were out exploring before the tour started and we lugging bags with us). I definitely recommend packing light or finding a coin locker, since you’ll have a lot of ground to cover. When we visit Kyoto again, we will definitely book Eijii for another round of exploring and food tasting. We appreciated his thoughtfulness and that he took us to family-run shops that have been there for generations. He even pointed out the “tourist traps” - businesses that don’t use authentic ingredients or had inferior quality foods. We invited Eijii to come visit us in Guam so that we could return the favor and take him out on a foodie adventure in our neck of the Pacific. "
"We booked the street food tour with Guia and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto. Before our travels I reached out to her a few times with questions and she was always very prompt and helpful. When we met her in person, we immediately felt comfortable…like we were meeting a friend that was showing us the town! She has a great, relaxed and cheerful personality and took us to some hidden gems that we would not have found on our own. It wasn’t a “one size fits all” tour. She completely customized stops based on what we were in the mood for. Highly recommend this tour with Guia."

"We had a wonderful time with Eiji! It was our first full day in Kyoto (and Japan for that matter) and he took us under his wing. Nishiki Market seemed overwhelming but with Eiji's guidance and expertise, we felt comfortable and excited to try a wide range of delicious food! He introduced us sansho pepper and we're all hooked. He guided us through Gion and took so many pictures of us throughout the night! He caught a lot of candid moments which will forever be great memories for us. Thank you, Eiji! "
"We had such a great street food tour with Eiji. Right from the start he told us what to expect and I loved getting to learn more about the food market and history of the city through all the interesting facts that Eiji shared with us. He was super friendly and funny and we are so glad we had him as our guide. Would highly recommend! "
"Ryuki was an excellent food tour guide. We left stuffed and extremely happy having sampled all that Kyoto has to offer in terms of excellent food. He took us to hidden gems that we would never have found on our own and suggested unique and interesting dishes that we probably would never have thought of trying. As a native of Kyoto, we would highly recommend him to guide your culinary adventure in Kyoto. "
"Ted (Yoshihiro) was an amazing guide bringing our group to discover a lot of secret parts of the local area! We tasted a variety of amazing dishes and he was super flexible with our requests! Ted was an amazing communicator and an amazing tour guide! We recommend him to anyone looking for an amazing tour!"
"Guia started our Kyoto food tour in a small teppanayaki-style restaurant, the kind with a hot griddle in the middle of each table. Among the items she ordered for the four of us to try was yakisoba, a delicious noodle dish that I couldn’t stop eating. Luckily Guia knew exactly how to make it and wrote the recipe for it in my phone. From there we went on to the Nishiki Market where we sampled a lot of food from an unending number of stalls. One of the next best stops was to briefly sit at a counter to be served the famous Wagyu beef. Yum. Guia never rushed us through the market and was so patient as we quizzed her about all the packages of food that were new to us and written in Japanese. Having grown up in the Philippines , she is a native English speaker, always a welcome help."
"We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting tour with Eiji. He was friendly, informative and accommodating to the fussy needs of our teenager. He also took loads of fantastic photos for us. I highly recommend booking a tour with Eiji, you won't be disappointed."
"This tour was fantastic! Eiji made the experience exceptional, and I would recommend him to anyone considering this tour. For the Nishiki Market portion of the tour, Eiji recommended the foods and we had the ability to decline and try something different. We chose to take his recommendations and try the things he thought we would enjoy. He focused on the shops that had been in the market for a very long time and not the new pop-up tourist trap stalls. He took a ton of pictures for us as we tried the different things. He also explained the origin/history of the foods we were trying. Part two of the tour was even better! Eiji took us to several different shrines and explained the rituals that are performed by those who worship at the shrines. He walked us through areas in Gion and pointed out things we never would have known or never would have seen. He gave us an education into things that we were interested in learning but didn't expect to get from this tour. This was by far one of the best tours I have taken in many years of traveling. When I go back to Kyoto, I will book a tour with him again! Thank you Eiji for making this a wonderful time for us. "
"Great day with Ted. Very informative and great food choices. Highly highly recommend!"
