"I have wanted to visit Herculaneum for some years, and finally got there this year, combining it with a visit to Pompeii.
Firstly, I would say a visit to either place WITH a guide is a hugely enriching experience - I honestly do not know how I would have made any real sense of a visit without a guide. It would be an almost impossible job.
So, Raffaele was my guide, and I asked him what motivated him to become an archeologist - and he answered "Seeing Jurassic Park as a young boy". That says it all!! Raffaele was very warm and personable, extremely knowledgeable on the complex nature of the Herculaneum site, and on the nature of the particular disaster it suffered and how it differed in major ways from what happened at Pompeii (no spoilers here!) All in all, he left no stone unturned in the tour, and did his level best to answer all of my questions - even the dozy ones! Bravo Raffaele !!"

"Francesco was a brilliant guide. Pompei is in his DNA. He knew so much about the site and gave us lots of background. Being an archaeologist that has worked at the site and toured with artefacts, his knowledge was first hand. His energy and enthusiasm for pompei was fantastic. There was no question he couldn’t answer (he’s an archaeologist after all!) and he tailored our time at Pompei to maximize our family’s experience (including for our 2 boys age 12/14). If coming from Rome for the day, definitely take the high speed train ( a cool experience in itself travelling at 300kph!)
