We were totally consumed by the delivery of his educational knowledge that the time flew! He visited Herculaneum first, which was utterly breathtaking and gave us the opportunity to understand the history in tranquility and harmony before moving onto Pompeii. They were a great contrast to do in the same trip. A quick lunch stop at a very nice authentic restaurant (great also for our dietary requirements) before heading up to Mount Versivius. "Firstly, support this amazing local archaeologist instead of other tour companies. If you are considering other options...DON'T - Raffaele is the best. He is friendly, funny and welcoming, but also SO knowledgeable and brings Herculaneum to life in such a memorable way - you can really imagine what it was like before. He knows the best routes to visit the most important areas and is so knowledgeable, he answered every question we had with ease. It was just three of us on the tour and we were questioning whether to splurge on a private tour (our dollar is very bad compared to the euro so it was a lot for us), but this was one place we were so happy we did spend the little bit extra. "Interesting visit to Herculanuem with Raffaele as our accomplished guide. We went early at 9am and had the site virtually to ourselves. Although small in comparison to Pompeii the site is well preserved and you come away with a real sense of how the ancient romans lived (and died) in this small town. Well worth a visit especially with Raffaele as our archeological guide. Went on the train from Sorrento which is easy but make sure you buy the express train ticket which is more expensive but you don’t need to change trains. "
