"I visited Heidelberg 41 years ago with some high school mates and we had a great time ….mostly staring at the end of a mug of beer. This time, my wife and I decided to book a three hour tour of the castle and hidden gems of Old Town with Daniel through Withlocals and so glad we did. Daniel was born in US but the son of a military man so he moved around a lot but has lived in Heidleberg for over sixty years. He showed us the castle and all the backstory…tremendously interesting and worth the trip up the hill and the $11 ticket. Somehow Daniel covered 800 years of castle-history in about 90 minutes…fascinating. Then we headed down the hill to learn a little more about the town. We covered the churches and battles between Catholics and Protestants, the student jail, a typical Heidleberg families home/office, the old bridge and even learned how the regulated the size of a proper pretzel circa 1500. Daniel is a terrific guy and a gracious host in the town he is so very proud of and rightly so. "
