"Mia was amazing, very welcoming and made our experience in Dubrovnik so much better. She told us about the history of Dubrovnik, showed us some hidden jams in the old town, took us for a treat at a local ice cream shop and oyster tasting afterwards. She gave us great recommendations for places to eat, shop and party at night and even played the role of our personal photographer during the tour. "I had booked a walking tour with Karmen many months ago. and then had to change the dates based on our final travel plans. Karmen was fantastic all along and flexible to suit our needs. She was super knowledgeable about the city and kept our walking tour very real and fun with engaging stories about the local history,the ways of croatian life and of course several games of thrones snippets that kept our whole family and friends super engaged. She helped us end the tour in an excellent local craft beer place for a drink upon our request and then even walked us to our dinner place which she only had recommended earlier and helped us book. "We had a wonderful adventure in the old city of Dubrovnik with Marko. He was very knowledgable about the city history and passionate about showing off his home. He made the history interesting and engaging for our eight year old daughter via the treasure hunt. "Mia was extremely thoughtful and communicative both before, during and even after our event. She thought of our trip holistically, asking questions and paying attention to our answers both to tailor our tour with her and to offer additional advice and tips on the rest of our trip. She was very genuine and nice, in addition to being a true "local" with a heart for entertaining tourists and connecting with new people. She was extremely knowledgable about Old Town and Split and was very nice and friendly. She did bring up U.S. politics, which I think was a mistake considering roughly 50% of the country sits on each side of the aisle. She referenced Donald Trump as "the orange man" and criticized ICE as well. I'm not hugely political, but I don't go on vacation to get lectured on American politics or to hear of someone's disdain for America's federal government. I'm all for the right of each person to have an opinion, but I didn't think it was the most appropriate venue in which to volunteer those types of opinions -- to a captive tour audience. But it was a small blip in an otherwise-sterling experience with Mia. We went to a gelato shop and the worker did not understand my English, so I got a different flavor than what I ordered. That was OK with me, and I ate it anyway (it was delicious). But Mia ended up going back inside the shop and ordering the flavor for us that I'd intended. Considering that the guides are paying for the snacks out of the total revenue they're getting from us/from the app for the tour, that was an extremely nice gesture. She also invited us to a semi-private saxophone concert on the walls. We weren't able to make it because we had dinner up on Mt. Srd for several hours and were a bit cold by the time the concert was starting. But it was a nice gesture. It was also fascinating hearing Mia's experiences during the unfortunate war in Croatia in the early '90s as well as her experiences working in the hotel industry. Overall, Mia was a consumate professional that felt like something close to a friend. And was a great representation of Dubrovnik and Croatia at large. We hired three different tour guides from With Locals on this vacation, among other interactions and experiences on other platforms. And Mia was either the best or co-best of all of them. I'd absolutely recommend hiring Mia for a tour of Dubrovnik."
