There was a time when one third of Warsaw's inhabitants considered themselves Jewish. Nalewki Street was the most important, lively and populous street for this community. And the magnificent Great Synagogue on Tłomackie was an important centre not only for religious practice but also for culture. World War II brought all of that to a devastating end.
For this tour, I have chosen both places that are associated with the extraordinary culture and traditions of Warsaw's Jews, as well as with their tragic fate and struggle for life in the ghetto.
We will use our imagination in the places where Jews lived, did their businesses, where they relaxed and prayed. We will visit sites that are memorials to their heroic struggle, but also to their surrender to fate and suffering. We will see what the former Jewish quarter of Muranów looks like today - green, beautiful and full of life.
If you are interested in other places related to the Jewish community in Warsaw, just let me know, and I'll master a tailor-made tour for you! Hope to see you soon!
